Week 2...and going strong!

First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I love you all!

I love it here! The gospel is amazing. And to answer Mom's question, yes I get enough to eat :D It's all you can eat. In fact, Sunday we fasted for a Sister in our district who was really struggling. And so at dinner that night I ate a double portion of everything. 2 BBQ sandwiches, 2 bananas, 2 cookies, and two bags of chips. It REALLY hurt to laugh. :)

So, I fly out at sometime around 5 AM Monday morning. I am supposed to be at the travel office here at 3 AM. So, Mom and Dad, expect a call sometime around 5. (I request no one else, as it will be hard enough) :) I have a lay over in Dallas and then will be in Mississippi around noon ish. I didn't bring the paper with me to the laundry mat. Anywho!

I am loving life. I love the classes. We have had four different teachers so far, and will have another one for one day (Friday). They have all been awesome. Sister Ward was subbing for Brother Okoren (who was in CO visiting his 15 year old sister in the hospital...she finally got a kidney transplant). Brother Dickey was AMAZING but is in Maryland with his family for Christmas. Brother Okoren leaves Friday. Brother McQuay will be staying with us (he replaces Brother Dickey). Brother Wanket will be replacing Brother Okoren for a day. We don't have classes on Saturday... it's CHRISTMAS! It's doesn't really feel like it, but I am sure it will. Elder Alvey has a Christmas tree, which should help a little. It's a Christmas tree in a box. Pretty sweet. :)

We have a devotional Friday night, and one Saturday afternoon. And a fireside Saturday night. We don't know who's speaking until we get there, but the devotional on Saturday is a long one, so I expect more than one apostle. Maybe the prophet. :D

So, I have less than 5 minutes and I want to add a couple of email address to my account, so I am going to end this. Kind of short, but life here is the same everyday.

One of my new favorite scriptures is D&C 128:22. It's awesome. I am going forward!

Well, I love you all! Party hard tomorrow! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'm not sure when I will have p-day in the field, I think Monday. So you wont hear from me for a week and a half. But oh well.

Love you all!

First Letter from MTC

I only have 30 minutes, so I figure I will just email this to everyone! :) I am only allowed to email immediate family members too. Maybe pass that on to others. Anywho. We have laundry at 4pm on Wednesdays (P-days) and they have computers down here so I can email while the wash is going.

I have been here a week, and it feels like an eternity. There is no sense of time here at all. Like none at all. The days last forever, but go by so quickly too! I love it though. Talking about the gospel day in and day out is just AWESOME!!!! I love my Savior and I love learning about him and how to better bring souls unto Him. That is my purpose as a missionary. To invite others to come unto Christ and receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. An awesome and amazing concept. 3 Nephi 27 talks about all of them. It is an awesome chapter. I have it all color coded in my scriptures about the different principles.

We wake up every day at 6:30 (a little earlier most of the time, especially on Mondays when we have service at 6:35) and study, have class, eat (pretty good food, and all that we can eat), teach, study, more class, more food, walk, admire the snow (as of today), attend devotionals (Tuesdays and Sundays), Temple Walks on Sundays, go to the temple on Wednesdays (p-day), service, large group meetings (one of my favorite things so far in the MTC was a LGM on finding people to teach. D&C 29:7- The Lord's elect. Awesome principle and concept), and lots of other things, not all in that order given. Life is awesome! :)

A brief note. If you use "DearElder.com" they print them off everyday so I can read them that night. And it's free. So instead of email, I recommend that for my stay here in the MTC. Though I do love normal letters too!

The other Elders are really awesome and nice. The Elders that flew out this past Monday gave us a bunch of candy and stuff they didn't want to take. And laundry soap. The Elders in my district are pretty good. Fun to be around for the most part. 4 are going to Nashville, TN, 4 to Jackson, MS (including myself), and then the Sisters... 2 to Kirtland, 1 to MS, and 1 to TN. That's our district. My favorite Elder is Elder Heeb, our district leader. He is awesome.

Anywho, I need to get going. Hope all is well! I pray for all of you every night! Always remember that the gospel is true and that Christ lives! Share the gospel with all you meet and help the missionaries around you. They need it. We (missionaries) can't do this work by ourselves.

Love you all!

Love,
Elder Mendenhall

Dwight made it to the MTC! I will start regular posts once he gets to the mission. He leaves on December 27th. Every week I will print out any comments or notes you want to send to him. He would love to hear from you!
